Thermistor motor protection

The U-EK 230E is a thermistor motor protection device which is intended for use in conjunction with a contactor for the protection of the Atex fans in the DKEX, KTEX and TFDX series and others using a thermistor. This is an electronic unit designed for snap fitting on to a 35 mm instrument rail. Fan motors have six series-connected thermistors, two per phase winding, whose resistance is determined by the motor temperature. When the motor temperature exceeds the permitted limit, the resistance rises sharply and the motor protector is triggered.

When the motor protector has been triggered, the warning light marked "Strung" ("Fault") is illuminated. The device is reset manually, either by pressing the "Reset" button, or by interrupting the voltage supply to the motor protector (stopping supply to A2) for approximately 10 seconds.

If a five-step transformer is used for regulating EX fans, the U-EK 230E should be connected to the transformer.
